Helen begins a passionate affair with a man who has no idea what her secret identity is. Helen’s employer finds herself conflicted when her lover falls prey to the dangerous London underworld, and calls on Sam to protect him. There is a scene where the characters discuss their favorite Christmas movies. None of them mention Love, Actually, the hugely popular Christmas movie.

Featured in Graham Norton i gosti: Cher/Keira Knightley/Michael Fassbender/Josh Brolin/Jalen Ngonda (2024). 8.5/10Remember those great British sentimental Christmas movies like Love Actually and Last Christmas no Black Doves has surprisingly few of those holiday moments in its six dramatic episodes. I say amazing because this British espionage thriller has some very violent moments with shootouts, executions and some very dark moments, but these scenes are almost comic-like, or perhaps like many I’ve become a little desensitized to violence in TV and movies. Cleverly directed by Alex Gabassi and Lisa Gunning and written by Joe Barton, Black Doves stars Ben Whishaw, Keira Knightley and Sarah Lancashire, all in top form, playing very shadowy characters with double lives that work together and independently to resolve.

He’s playing a very different role to what I’ve seen him play before Ben Wishaw plays Helen Webb’s Sam Young played by Keira Nightly. These two unlikely trained assassins work for their ruthless boss Reed, played by Sarah Lancashire in another wonderful departure from her usual police inspector roles. Reed is a real scene stealer in Black Doves. sell secrets to the highest bidder regardless of national allegiance.
dimension to what could have been a very dark series
Black Doves moves quickly through an interesting cast of characters, including Helen’s husband Wallace, a powerful and ambitious politician who is oblivious to his wife’s double life until the dramatic conclusion. Another supporting role I enjoyed was played by Kathryn Hunter as Lenny Lines, another ruthless assassin recruit. As I mentioned earlier, I was surprised by some of the lighter snow scenes, Christmas carols and gift-giving around the tree, which I thought added another. I doubt and hope we’ll see another series of Black Doves, it’s a quality production.
