Tale
Andy Goodrich’s life is turned upside down when his wife enters rehab, leaving him alone with their young children. Goodrich relies on Grace, his daughter from his first marriage, as he ultimately becomes the father she never had. "I wrote it 100 percent with him in mind," she said, “to the point where if he had said no, I would have buried it and myself in the yard.” A box of "Cinnamon Toast Crunch" continues to spin 180° during the breakfast scene. Andy: If life ain’t kicking your ass, it ain’t doing its job..

Entertainment Inc. Andy Goodrich’s (Michael Keaton) life is cut short when his wife and the mother of their nine-year-old twin enter a 90-day rehab program, leaving him alone with his young children. Immersed in the world of modern parenting, Goodrich relies on his daughter from his first marriage, Grace (Mila Kunis), as he finally becomes the father Grace always wanted. The story isn’t just about Keaton growing up to be a father, it’s also about him growing up every time life throws him a curveball.
Vivien Lear-Blair as his daughter Ellie deserves a lot of credit for her excellent performance
I think the whole story, with negative event after negative event coming at him from all sides, tearing apart who he is, is about him quietly and stoically fighting and overcoming everything life has to throw at him. He perfects himself into a version of himself that multiple people can love, and he finds what’s truly important in life instead of wasting all his energy on work. Keaton’s performance is excellent, and justifies the writer-director’s (Halley Meyers-Shear) decision to write the film for him. He’s ably supported by Mila Kunis, who has proven she can do serious acting as well as the comedy she’s well known for.
She’s been around for years, and she just keeps getting better and better
Overall, a great film that tells me, “Never give up.” Always strive to overcome and move forward.” Most of us over a certain age already know this, but it’s great to have a reminder that’s done intelligently and emotionally. A very enjoyable film with great performances from all, and I gave it a 7.
