The women are, in some ways, the most interesting and least interesting characters on the show
All the components are there to create something fun and fresh, but the show fails to push the ideas past the clichés. Every time I leaned forward expecting the show to surprise me, it ran into the most obvious, dead-on solution. The dialogue itself is also pretty spotty, and I had to laugh twice in the four episodes. Rarely do you see them flesh out an interesting female character with inner conflict and depth (The Bride) and present a flat, unrealistic, and oversexualized princess archetype (Ilana) in the same breath.
The voice acting is fantastic throughout, with Varma standing out
The flag is as interesting as they come, and we don’t know enough about the man on fire to really care. The character designs are great, and I like the overall visuals. The music and the way the scenes are cut and edited work well for the most unique aspect of an otherwise watered-down, shaky brand. “One Hundred Years of Solitude” is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month.
