Writer Gary Dauberman told Den of Geek in June 2019 that his goal with the new version of Salem’s Lot is to make vampires scary again. He wants to move away from the sexier, more romanticized undead that have plagued pop culture for much of the last quarter century, thanks to everything from Interview with the Vampire to Twilight to The Vampire Diaries. The film is set in the late 1970s, like the book. Mark’s night light is a Batman night light using a 1989 Batman logo. Correction: The story is set in 1975. The style of Mark’s Batman light is similar to the 1989 one, but the 1974 Batman toys show that the same style was also used in 1975. References Trog (1970). I loved the book when I read it in the 80s and was looking forward to this film, but I was disappointed. I’m not a purist and I’m not usually bothered by different interpretations of a fictional story. but the changes weren’t really the worst parts, it would be the bland storytelling and the film just felt rushed. There was no character development, the acting was mediocre, although Alfre Woodard was a standout and I wish she had been shown more. as she was the best part of the movie for me, even though she was barely in it, and I can’t say it enough, there was really nothing going on in the story to keep me interested. A little backstory about anyone would have been nice, some real insight into the budding romance that was unfolding to help us feel the heartbreak of the main characters, something other than the bland scenes we got. Sadly, a completely forgettable movie. Not recommended.. The final season of “What We Do in the Shadows” is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month.
