Tale
Helen embarks on a passionate affair with a man who has no idea what her secret identity is
Caught in the crosshairs when her lover falls victim to London’s dangerous underworld, Helen’s employer calls in Sam to protect her. Bingo, the owner of the guitar shop where Sam gets his guns, is played by Rat Scabies, a member of classic punk band The Damned.
Appearing in Graham Norton Starring: Cher/Keira Knightley/Michael Fassbender/Josh Brolin/Jalen Ngonda (2024)
There’s a lot to like about Black Doves, once you get over the fact that it’s pretty far-fetched! Keira Knightley plays the wife of the UK’s Defense Minister, but who’s actually a trained assassin, working for a shadowy organization (yeah, yeah, I’d never have made it past the screening, I know!).
The plot features some of his colleagues, which include a mishmash of assorted characters, but they are actually very funny, with a nod to Guy Ritchie
There is an underlying element of homosexuality with his colleague Ben Wishaw, who plays a homosexual who was groomed as an assassin by his father, who was also one. This gave Wishaw the chance to play a rather nuanced and tortured role quite sympathetically, but reminds me why my wife and I have started to enjoy Korean and Japanese dramas, where there is no explicit sex.
The plot moves along at a good pace and there are some wonderful caricatures in the mishmash of assassins in Black Doves
The plot involves a gang war, the CIA and an international incident that threatened a major row between China, the UK and the US. Overall, despite being quite far-fetched, it is an enjoyable film and Knightly does a believable job of being a rather scary girl, quite believable in her role.
It is certainly worth a watch!
